Description

We created an Organic Herbal Sleep Aid Supplement that is very different from the rest of the market.
We carefully chose herbs that relax the muscle, regulate mood, calm the brain and digestive system. They include adaptogens like ashwagandha that have been used for centuries by ancient cultures and are combined with today’s most current scientific research on successful natural sleep alternatives. Our formula is also complimented with critical vitamins that support these goals. No sleep aid supplement is complete without addressing adrenal support. The adrenal glands are often overlooked in sleep and stress formulations. All this is done without compromising health by excluding fillers like magnesium stearate or adding addictive ingredients like melatonin, which shut down the body’s ability to naturally produce it. Those transitioning from other sleep aids like:

[Melatonin, Ambien, Lunesta, TylenolPM, AdvilPM, Restoril, Sonata, Xanax, Halcyon]

Customers have been successful getting off these sleep aids. Though they may need to take Zen Sleep a few nights in a row and complimenting Zen Sleep with Zen Calm is most successful as this provides 24-hour adrenal support. We can’t guarantee this in all cases, but we have had a very convincing track record so far.

Our products are formulated to improve sleep and reduce stress in proven ways. We use only the most effective natural ingredients based on scientific research and conveniently combine them in two products, so as to maximize their benefits.

INGREDIENTS

Magnesium (Glycinate)
Magnesium is extremely important in reaching a relaxed state. There are nine forms of magnesium and they all do very different things. Our Magnesium Glycinate has the highest bioavailability or absorption rate and relaxes the body’s skeletal muscle better than any other form. Magnesium is required for muscle relaxation and is highly deficient in most people. Being deficient in this critical mineral can alone cause tension. Our Magnesium is bonded to the amino acid glycine. Glycine is a relaxing neurotransmitter and therefore enhances magnesium’s natural relaxation properties. This is the best form when using it for calming and relaxation.Additionally, our Magnesium is the least likely to induce diarrhea and the safest option for correcting a long-term deficiency.
Organic Chamomile
Chamomile is typically used to calm an upset stomach, induce sleep, calm muscle spasms and overall reduce anxiety and depression.Chamomile’s bluish-colored oils contain 28 different terpenoids and 36 flavonoids, among them luteolin and quercetin, which are natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. One flavonoid in particular, apigenin, acts as a neurotransmitter binding to benzodiazepine receptors in the brain, causing relaxation.

Research supports chamomile’s ability to relax blood vessels and smooth muscle fibers, which contribute to its sedative and sleep-inducing properties. Studies show chamomile oil reduced levels of ACTH, a stress hormone in the brain and revealed substantial improvement in mood while reducing anxiety.

Organic Peppermint
Peppermint is one of our best allies in reducing stress and anxiety. This is attributed to its menthol containing leaves which is a natural muscle relaxant. We often don’t realize how a good night’s sleep is connected to proper digestion. If there are irregular muscle contractions in our digestive tract this can negatively influence our sleep patterns.

Peppermint is unique in that it can survive hostile environments with ease like stomach acid and relax the smooth muscle that make up our GI tract. It has been used to sooth IBS and is helpful in both calming the mind and digestive systems for a restful sleep.

Holy Basil
Tulsi or Holy Basil is a close relative to mint and therefore has a positive influence on digestive issues. It also has antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.

In India holy basil is revered for its adaptogenic characteristics. This adaptogen helps the body to cope under stressful conditions while relieving adrenal fatigue.

When we are under constant stress our adrenal glands secrete cortisol and corticosterone, this is often referred to as the “fight or flight” hormone. They are useful for immediate energy, but when constantly secreted this results in adrenal fatigue, stress, digestive issues, and insomnia. If left unchecked, the constant production of cortisol and corticosterone leads to increased appetite and weight gain, nervous system damage, anxiety or depression, and immune suppression.

Eugenol, caryophyllene and triterpenoic acids contained in Holy Basil reduce the stress hormone levels from the adrenal glands, avoiding common symptoms of adrenal fatigue.

Lemon Balm
Another member of the mint family, lemon balm contains naturally occurring compounds like eugenol that relaxes skeletal muscle and terpenes that adds to the soothing effect.

Lemon balm contains rosmarinic acid, which increase GABA activity in the brain; an important neurotransmitter that calms anxiety and reduces overexcitement. This is achieved by inhibiting transaminase enzyme that breaks down GABA allowing more to exist in the brain.

This increase in GABA is discussed in more detail below in the phenyl-GABA description.

GABA
GABA or gamma aminobutyric acid is a very important neurotransmitter for lowering anxiety and mood regulation. It does this in part by balancing other hormones, namely adrenalin and noradrenalin. When they are out of balance one typically feels restless, anxious, depressed, stressed and irritable. This imbalance is strongly linked to insomnia.

Valerian Root
Valerian root has been used for centuries to address insomnia. Science has shown the pathway has mostly to do with increasing the amount of GABA in the brain. This significantly relaxes the body and reduces anxiety. Most anti-anxiety drugs on the market today target this pathway. Fortunately with valerian root this can be accomplished naturally.

L -Theanine
Getting to sleep is one thing, but staying asleep is a separate issue. Studies show that L-theanine relaxes the mind and increases restful sleep. While L-theanine won’t cause the individual to sleep longer, test subjects reported feeling more refreshed. This can be seen on an EEG, as L-theanine smooth’s out brain waves.

Sleep experts agree this enables the brain to reach deeper states of sleep and increase the sense of rest.

Passion Flower
Passion flower is another GABA increasing ingredient that lowers anxiety, stress, calms the mind and has a positive influence on the gastrointestinal tract. It has been used for centuries to address an upset stomach.

Organic Skullcap
Skullcap has been used for many years to reduce anxiety brought about by prolonged stress. This includes its positive impact on reducing panic attacks and is often coupled with passion flower for its synergy. It is useful in both acute or prolonged stress. It’s especially good for relieving muscle spasms and an overall relaxer of the nervous system.

B12 [Methylcobalamin]
Not all B12s are created equal. To have any positive affect on sleep and stress, it needs to pass the blood brain barrier and only the methylcobalamin form of B12 is able to do that.

The methylcobalamin form of B12 has the highest bioavailability is highly stable and is already converted into the most readily accessible form for the body. Once in the brain, B12 simulates serotonin secretion, improving mood and reducing irritability.

B12 protects the brain against exotoxins, which damage nerve stems. Methylcobalamin also reduces homocysteine levels in the body improving cardiovascular health.

B1 Thiamine
Vitamin B1 is referred to as the “anti-stress” vitamin. It is an essential nutrient for the brain and helps to the body and brain recover during elongated periods of stress. B1 has been identified in supporting nerve function, reducing memory loss, improving overall long-term brain health while contributing to cardiac support.

B6 (Pyridoxal 5-phosphate)
Vitamin B6 also plays a vital role in creating the building blocks for neuron growth and repair. It has been linked in increases in GABA production for those with insomnia who are chronically deficient in B6. Reductions in anxiety and increases in restful sleep are heavily dependent on proper amounts of B6 in the brain.

This company is my go to company for my sleep, liver and gut health issues.

  2. Carol V

I was happy to find this bottle here, it has twice the number of capsules as what I could find in the local health food store, for about the same cost. I decided to stop the antihistamine every night for sleep and this product works very well for me. I get to sleep and stay asleep. It works for me.

  3. Darnording

    Really good item

  4. Sheilia

    Good quality product for sleep.

  5. Paul

I take two of these about an hour before I turn in. They work well and I typically fall asleep much faster with them than without them.

  6. Todd, CA

I work the night shift and I have a real problem getting to sleep. I was taking melatonin, but it stopped working. Zen Sleep has really helped. I stay away from the over the counter sleep aids. I know they aren’t healthy for me.

  7. Heather, CT

Great nights sleep without the groggy feeling in the morning.

  8. Vanessa, CO

I was told me my doctor that I had adrenal fatigue and that was interrupting my sleep. I had taken lots of things for this before, but Zen Sleep seems to work the best.

  9. Mary, CT

I tried Zen Sleep because as a postmenopausal woman I had lots of problems sleeping. I tried this product and it worked better than any of the over the counter sleep aids I have taken in the past. I slept well, woke before the alarm and felt refreshed and without any hung-over feeling. Definitely worth a try if you suffer from insomnia.
